Paula J Williams Counselling & Psychotherapy

Thank you for visiting my website - please have a look around to learn more about me and what I can offer people considering counselling, psychotherapy or clinical supervision.

People choose to come to counselling or therapy for a wide range of reasons; perhaps you have a specific issue you want to work with, or maybe you feel more generally unhappy or dissatisfied in your life and want to explore the reasons for this in order to make changes. Counselling and therapy can help with all sorts of specific difficulties; examples include alcohol and drug misuse, eating disorders, self-harm, phobias and compulsive behaviours, loss and bereavement, bullying, and other traumatic experiences such as childhood or domestic abuse, rape and assault.

They can also help with less specific issues such as questions about sexuality and gender identity, relationship and family difficulties, ageing, illness and disability, anxiety, stress and depression, and struggles with self-esteem and self-image. There are as many reasons to choose counselling and therapy as there are people; whatever is troubling you, counselling and therapy can give you a safe, confidential space to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences, help you to identify changes and choices you can make, and help you harness your resources in order to achieve your goals. Put simply, having someone neutral to talk to who will listen and not judge you can make a big difference.

I have 20 years’ experience as a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist working with all kinds of issues, and I work both short- and long-term, depending on what you need. I am based in the Peak District near Manchester and Sheffield, and am working mostly online or by phone, though face to face sessions may be possible on request.

In addition to counselling and psychotherapy, I am a highly experienced supervisor offering both one to one and group clinical supervision. I work with qualified and trainee therapists from a variety of modalities as well as people working in other roles which benefit from the support of supervision. I am also a trainer, having taught counselling and psychotherapy for over ten years, and a writer, with my writing credits including co-authoring the fifth edition of the best-selling book First Steps in Counselling.

I am a Senior Accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and also an NCPS Accredited Supervisor. I have been awarded the honour of Fellowship of the NCPS in recognition of my contribution to the field of counselling. I’m also a member of PCT Scotland, PCE Europe and Rainbow Therapy Scotland.
